Hey guys,
working on a portable Uzebox in a breadboard design.
Well... first of all: I wanted a portable one!
But: don't have an enclosure or a printer for that.
And I wanted to build it now and by myself without a printed pcb.
The TFT is a 4.3" with AV input. So for now I have grayscale because I'm waiting for the shipped AD725 to get color.
The wiring is a mess because of limited space and the fixing for the TFT is improved by soldered thick wire. Well without an enclosure it is really hard.
Power comes from a Powerbank mounted on the backside. For now it is the original round 3.6 volt cell. I will change it later with a flat cell.
For now I'm wiring the buttons. Then comes the SD card and I can start to play the first games.

And here is the result for today...
Everything runs with 5 Volt (no step-up converter needed). Also the LM386 for audio. That's maybe the reason why the sound is a little bit quiet.
When the AD725 arrive I will hot glue the whole back to get a better grip.

Re: Uzebox breadboard portable
looking pretty sweet
Re: Uzebox breadboard portable
Thanks.
But well... one 3.7 cell is too less. I can only play < 1h
Or my cell has to less power. It is only a 1800mah one.
Also without enclosure it feels a bit weird in hand.

Pretty nice work! Though you have some power issue...less than an hour is really not much. How much power does that screen consumes? Also I can see you are using a linear regulator? That can waste a lot of power. But you say it works from 3.6Volts only...you are using some sort of boost converter?
For reference, I used switching DC boost converter for my portable and I can get ~8-9 hours from a 2500maH li-ion battery on a 3.5" screen.
Also, if you can design an enclosure in say Fusion 360 you can have it made for ultra cheap at JLCPCB if you don't have a 3D printer.

No, I do not use a linear regulator. I also have to correct myself a little. I have taken a powerbank as voltage source. This is ultimately nothing more than a Li-cell with upstream step-up to 5 volts. I could remove the booster board from the powerbank and also clamp it to the board. So it all runs on 5 volts of course. Only the cell I will have to replace with a stronger one.
The display already draws a lot of current. I haven't measured it yet but I guess all in all 200-400mA.
I used to have boards at JLCPCB. That was in the middle of last year. Until today nothing arrived. So again I wanted to order there reluctantly.
Doesn't anyone have a Uzebox portable left?

My AD725 arrived and I finished my portable breadboard Uzebox
I'm so happy!!

Woot, another portable, good work!!

Re: Uzebox breadboard portable
Hmpf... bought a very very flat powerbank with more power in order to change the current big weak powerbank on my portable device.
But I was too fast with finishing my device.
I glued a backplate on the pcb for better grip and for hiding the patch cables...
I'm not able anymore to change the powerbank.
So, the only solution is to build another portable Uzebox.
Again without enclosure but I think to design a pro pcb for that.
