Topics regarding the Uzebox hardware/AVCore/BaseBoard (i.e: PCB, resistors, connectors, part list, schematics, hardware issues, etc.) should go here.

Parts arrived yesterday, so the Rev. F1 PCB build is under way. The question I have is on the revision F1 the (L1) component has a CHOKE RF MOLDED 68UH 10% FERRITE (Digi-Key Part Number M8654-ND), but the PCB has the marking for a barrel type component, but looking at your completed PCB it looks like a INDUCTOR FIXED 68UH 10% RADIAL (Digi-Key Part Number M9991-ND). Can you advise as to the component on your completed PCB board?
I'm no analog guru and this is the part I could never be quite sure about. There's all kind of inductors with all kinds of parameters. I had a discussion with Harty (maker of the EUzebox) and seems the M9991-ND was not the appropriate type. Based on his recommendations, I found M8654-ND. Naturally this happened after I had the boards made, hence the radial footprint. I haven't ordered and tested the new part yet. You may want to keep it last and check if it makes any difference on the composite output image quality. M9991-ND gave marginal results at best. I'd be curious to know if new one fares better.

Well, add me to the "No Analog Guru" gang. I guess what threw me off was the "Choke" description for the inductor and the radial footprint on the PCB. My understanding is based on past discussions of the AD725 and the luma trap circuit here in this forum, to include reading the specification sheet for the AD725. The specification sheet for the AD725 does not speak of any use of a "Choke" Inductor. As I have found a Choke be an inductor which is usually used to pass DC current to a circuit and suppress any noise and RF from the circuit, not sure how this would impact the function of the luma trap on the AD725. The inductance and tolerance are the same for both M9991-ND and M8654-ND with some variations in frequencies. I will hold the M8654-ND out for now, but if I decide to use it I will report to its effects.

Thanks,
The Dawg

That's interesting. I'll have to dig into my old college books to learn back on the subject. In the mean time, it's fair you leave M8654-ND out. Though you could do some before/after tests by just touching the pads with the inductor.

Why did it take only 10 years for snes connectors to get cheap to buy !? Specially 90 deg ones are what we always needed right? Will update the pcb to support those at last. In fact a there's a lot of sellers on Aliexpress for those, pretty crazy.

ETA on the PCB updates? Was going to add some F5 boards to my latest PCB order from China, but if new ones with support for the 90 degree connectors are around the corner...

Thanks

The caps and vreg won't be critical and you can just pick same valued substitutes from a different brand.

I assume the optocoupler is only needed if you want to use the midi output.

Parts going out of service is a bitch and just a fact life you have no idea! Here's some replacements:
CAP ELECT 10UF -- 493-12962-3-ND
CAP CER .33UF -- 445-173379-1-ND
IC REG POS 1A 5V -- 296-47192-ND
LED 3MM SHORT LENS GREEN DIFF -- 67-1056-ND -- This one is in stock now

Post some pics of you board when done, we kinda love that here!

Hi...
I thought you built the Euzebox?

Well IC3 of F5 is only for MIDI use. It is an optocoupler.
IC1 is the voltage converter for the SD card and has got only 3 pins.
The last digit of Pi is 7! I calculated this, as I counted to infinity yesterday!
