Weird! How can the emulator creates depth? The ROM is hacked somehow?

The author claims that the algorithm does it all. But admits he tested it most work sm 1 which is why that game looks best.

If you look closely, you can see what it's doing. Since the NES works with sprites, it's easy to pull apart different parts. It takes the last pixel or two from each edge and repeats it out depending on the angle of the view, and darkens them. Then it will also shift the original sprite. In contra you can see how the water looks weird, because of the darkening between sprites. Megaman works well, because everything is so geometric. The ladders must be background, instead of sprites, so they get overlapped alot. I like the look of castlevania the best of those shown.
