Music & SFX

Post by paul »

hi everyone,

Adding music and sound effects to games is not my strong point. I usually try to copy the sound effects from other games (which is one of the reasons I tend to consider doing remakes before original games). If you're thinking of remaking a C64 classic on the Uzebox, these tools may be helpful.

This project aims at archiving as much of the best C64 music as possible.

You can play the sid files with the following tool:

There are some sid2mid converters out there, but I've never had much luck with them. For the more musically talented amongst us, creating your own midi files with these as reference would be a possibility. If you know of any other music & sfx resources, let us know.

Since the sound engine closely ressembles the NES, I found that converting NSF (Nintendo sound format) to MIDI works pretty good. NSF files uses the principle as SID file.

Get NSFs and the converter at Zophar domain:

NSF: http://www.zophar.net/music/nsf.html
Converter: http://www.zophar.net/download_file/13144

Naturally the MIDI file needs to doctored a bit, setting the patch you need, remove all unsupported controllers.
