WIP: Taxi!

Postby martinsustek » Sat Oct 01, 2011 5:10 pm

Hi,

I'm creating new game, it will be UGH! clone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YthG41fs2zg, intro is long). Goal is to move people from one platform to other as fast as possible, and not to break that flying vehicle.

Now I have basic engine in mode 3.
Helicopter is working, plaforms, and water too, but passengers isn't completed yet.

What I need is graphics and level design. I like, how UGH! looks, but I don't want to steal graphics. Do you know about some good source of free (creative commons?) pixel art?
Or are anybody interested in drawing tiles / designing levels for that game? Theme could be other than "prehistorik", maybe jungle and you will trasport monkeys and elephants or mario or something else.

Here's what I've done till now.

It's nearly complete in-game engine, with 1 level, and without graphics. There's still a lot of work, but I think the hardest programming is done.
Passenger's AI and sprite displaying takes a lot of time, so I had to disable two sound channels, but I think it'll be enough.

You can try it, if you want, but graphics is terrible, you've been warned.

Are there sprite flickering in mode 3? It'll save me some memory and add possibility to more passengers displayed at once.

I'll have no clue how to play, since I never played UGH! I'll search the net... For sure graphics would need a slight overhaul. ;)

It's still not much playable, but final application will not be much more complex, so it seems that uzebox is capable to handle it. Now I'll be working on graphics. If I'll get permission to use original ugh graphics, I'll try to resize it, else I'll try to draw my own.

I really like the bobbing effect when you fall into water. How'd you do that?
