uzebox as MCU module for upcoming modular system

Topics regarding the Uzebox hardware/AVCore/BaseBoard (i.e: PCB, resistors, connectors, part list, schematics, hardware issues, etc.) should go here.

uzebox as MCU module for upcoming modular system

Post by openchip »

Hi

after having some (un) success with "module" concepts (I am the author and trademark owner of the simmstick(tm) modules see http://www.simmstick.com) I am now developing several new modular concepts, one of them could have

uzebox compatible CPU module, i can not reveal the concept details at the moment as it is not officially launched yet.

as of technical i see almost no issues (with the uzebox as module)

the uzebox system would be
1) MCU module ATmega+crystal+3.3V LDO
== it has 6 "SLOTS"
to complete the uzebox the slots would be fitted with following modules
1) Video/Audio AD723
2) Power plug (+ UART optional)
3) dual NES ports
2) SD Card (optional)

2 slots would remain free for additional interface modules
that is a many of the modules from the modular concept could be used in the free slots

any comments on the idea?

Antti
PS I have low cost manufacturing capabilities so actual production want be a problem

Will it be compatible with the UzeBox STAMP?

http://www.uzebox.org/forums/viewtopic. ... rt=30#p304

Integrates everything onto a 40pin DIP layout.

3) dual NES ports
Do you have a source for NES connectors? There are so hard to find its unbelievable.

Hey there,

I always liked the simmstick idea-- even bought one of the (first?) AVR ones way back when. S1200 or S2313 version maybe...

Obviously it would work. ;-) The only thing I'd be concerned about is that your interconnects would push up your BOM cost without much advantage... All the UZEBOX hardware is so small that spreading the A/V, SD, etc. across multiple 'slots' doesn't seem to have much advantage and would raise the price, IMHO.

Maybe if you had a single 'uze' card that integrated all those functions and then left five slots open instead?

Uze
thats one reason i dont want them on the main board
there is one free 5V slot that COULD take nes port connectors
it could also be dual PS/2 or something else

//
the slot connectors DO NOT INCREASE price
and
this is not another uzebox ;)
its something else that may have just 1 module
that gives the possibility to play with uzebox too
