I'm sorry if I misled you that I can make sounds. I'm pretty bad at it. I only know what I did for Bubble Bobble which was to get a .nsf file of the game and then convert to midi (not-super-straight-forward) and then bring them into a midi editor to reduce part of the songs out.

But, a music test menu is a great way to start. Set up several lines with the text of the sound, manage a cursor, and depending on what line the cursor is on when you push A it would start that song.
