Well, my idea is still keeping it all digital.

But sucks that I have to use 1000s times more transistors in 2 ICs to convert from landscape to portrait.

Still it is only $10 of chips which is same ballpark as the ADxxx it replaces - plus it has the option to output VGA/DVI instead of NTSC.

Well, I don't see much of an issue if it's just 10$. I guess you'll end up making one of those little composite video boards that comes with LCD modules.
