Re: cuzebox runs great on my TV box
A bit old thread, just maybe useful still. The performance of the emulator is dominated by two things in my experience. One is the AVR ALU emulation (on this my guess is that around a 700MHz P3 should be the minimum to do it), the other is getting the display data onto the screen. Surprising as it i...

Re: Insane Contraption
This PCB was very conservative with trace widths, so is quite inefficient overall indeed. Had a better one printed since, but didn't get there with motivation yet to start working on it. The idea with the daughterboard for the SCART is modularity: You could swap that to a board doing NTSC with the A...

Re: Outpost in the Dragon's Maw
Hi Clymax, nice, glad you gave it a go! :) This game has quite some tricks to get efficient with it, I tried to set up the difficulty ramp so it should hopefully be rewarding to try pushing things further! ;) And yes, the suggestion is valid, and was on my mind, unfortunately I miserably ran out of ...

Re: Insane Contraption
Looking around here I realized I never posted this thing. P6197489.JPG This is a direction where this thing ended up evolving, which I might some day complete. The system there is an ATMega1284 acting as Video and I/O, combined with a 32KByte SRAM (this part is the same as the solder-spaghetti-monst...

Re: Change my mind: plug-and-plays > kits, to attract gamedevs AND end-users
I think streamlining of the web emulation would go a long way. Personally I like Uzebox because it's niche, and the interactions here I find to be high quality versus what I see other places that have a lower barrier to entry. Not saying we shouldn't ease things to new users, just that there are 2 ...

Re: Outpost in the Dragon's Maw
Thank you! For gconvert, a tileset generator could be added, I think Mode 13's might even work as-is, maybe the only thing to do is to make sure the tileset has a 256 bytes alignment. Megatiles are not included in Mode 74 itself. Thinking more in Python tools to be fair nowadays, it is less of a has...

Re: SPI memtest
It isn't something which would need much testing: Its simple interface is pretty much a guarantee that if it appears to work trying any of the SPI RAM graphics examples, it can't be wrong. The Uzeburn was/is a thing with a somewhat different goal: it was aimed to demo a library for verifying AVR ALU...

Re: Zelda 2 on Uzebox
That video is believed to be for the Uzebox, and apart from the music sounding maybe a bit too clean, in overall it is in the realm of possible with the appropriate skill and attention. He may have not used a map editor at all :P (Had you seen Flight of a Dragon? ... The map editor for that was putt...

Re: Change my mind: plug-and-plays > kits, to attract gamedevs AND end-users
It would be nice indeed, but I feel many of us might just not be in any position to be able to run such. If I had a stable home, I would probably look into trying to set up some reasonable manufacturing as I even have other hardware ideas. But I am just not in that situation. Accessible emulator I f...

Re: Zelda 2 on Uzebox
This is certainly one of the technologically very advanced games for the Uzebox to put all that content in the ROM, however unfortunately it appeared to be lost even by the time I first found out about this console in 2015. The .uze file which remains doesn't do any justice to it.
