Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 16-bit on Uzebox
Actually... the tile slat index would have to be 2 bytes to index the 395 tiles - which makes it a bit worse. Tiles then compress with 35% reduction, sonic with 17% reduction and the other sprites only 11% reduction - It still totals 6k of saved space so it's still worth it if the clocks to make it ...

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 16-bit on Uzebox
So I've been writing lots of pseudo code to get my ideas for this new video mode down in code without having to worry too much about AVR-specific things - then once I was happy I started breaking the code down into blocks and writing more pseudo assembly to get an idea of the amount of clocks it wou...

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog 16-bit on Uzebox
Yeah; I recently got the mega drive and Sonic 1 and 2... Actually ended up with 2 copies of each as sombody sent me the wrong catridge, I bought another and then they sent the replacement anyway and told me to keep the original!! heh, I might take the spares to bits to see what's inside :-p. But yea...

Re: Atmega 1280 out now?
Lol, I just found somthing similar on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280371574846&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123&salenotsupported Came here quickly to find out how sombody else had got hold of the magical uzebox-2 chip and realised I too was mistak...

Re: A spec for a new video mode (long post)
Ahhhh, but then it's no more a Uzebox! Retro-minimalism is what most folks here liked about the project. And, as some said, adding more hardware is easy and it becomes much less challenging (and hence, interesting!). I still have plans to build my own super-uzebox with dedicated graphics and sound ...

Re: A spec for a new video mode (long post)
Sounds similar to what I've been thinking about but with higher resolutions and less bpp :-p http://uzebox.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=421&start=50#p3710 My idea is only 120x~88 pixels, but has support for 2 scrolling layers: far and near. Near layer has sprite masking for sprites under a...

I'd never seen the media page before:
http://www.xgamestation.com/media.php
Looks like he went through some serious prototyping stages, right from Z80 to FPGA, Arm, and now onto PIC/AVR and Propeller.

Re: Emulator performance on GNU/Linux
Actually I'm not sure... it seems to help but doesn't fix it entirely.
How is the avr being clocked? I can see it tries to do 100,000,000 cycles but I don't get how it clocks to 28.xxx - I'm guessing there's somthing in the exec routine that's doing somthing else...

Re: Emulator performance on GNU/Linux
Looking at the main loop no wonder it's choppy :-p const int cycles = 100000000; int left = cycles; int now = SDL_GetTicks(); while (left > 0) left -= uzebox.exec(disasmOnly, false); now = SDL_GetTicks() - now; You might be able to get away with that under windows but it's still the wrong way to do i...

I got a Mega drive :-p
So with all this sonic talk I was interested in building my own uzebox and wanted an original Mega drive controller; I searched eBay and people were asking some really rediculous prices for 15 year old controllers. I followed a few and people were just bidding too much for them with each coming out ...
