Re: Figuring out sounds effects...
Hello Arlof, You don't have to be a musician to appreciate the way the sound engine works in the Uzebox. (Remember, all the classic game's music/sfx were made by programmers...mostly in asm too!) To begin with, to understand all the various commands, I would highly recommend you read this Uzebox wik...

Nice screenshot claytonghobbs!
I wonder what the game is about?
I'm not too far away from posting a screenshot myself... (stupid documentation required for school project *grumble grumble*)
I'm excited to see all the games get made! Keep your spirits up guys!

Re: uzem slows down under Linux
It certainly runs faster under windows for me.
One other thought on a possible speedup: try starting the emulator with the -w flag to suggest HW rendering and see if that helps. Either that, or use fullscreen with the -f flag. Might help out.
Best of luck!

Re: uzem slows down under Linux
I use uzem under Linux all the time (have for years) and yes...it usually doesn't run at fullspeed. There are tricks you can do to speed it up (disable sound, etc) but for the most part, it doesn't seem to run at fullspeed. My desktop computer runs Ubuntu 12.04 and has pretty decent specs (Athlon X2...

Re: Memory restrictions?
Hey Shiny, First, welcome to the Uzebox community. I'm sure Uze will be giving you a proper introduction shortly, but I'll take a whack at your questions in the meantime... First of all, yes, the Uzebox is extremely memory constrained as a device, but thats part of the fun. I would recommend using &...

Re: Play! Orchestra - Castlevavia
That was awesome Uze!
I had to pause my feed of streaming NES music to listen to it, so it was very appropriate.
Thanks for the link.

Tada!
Hopefully this will drum up some interest in the Uzebox coding competition: http://hackaday.com/2013/02/28/uzebox-coding-challenge/
I emailed the kind folks over at Hackaday, and behold, today they've advertised the compo!
Yay Uzers!

Re: Uzebox Code Challenge 2013 Opens!
I had been on the fence about entering since I am taking 2 grad school classes this semester....and my wife is pregnant ;P
But now that the deadline has been extended, I'm confident I can finish my game in time.
I'm in!
Thanks Uze.
PM incoming.

Re: Uzem on Raspberry Pi
I have a Raspberry Pi at home that I got for christmas.
If I get some time this weekend, I'll see if it compiles. It should when you consider that all the dependencies are there. Doesn't mean it'll run at full speed, but I wouldn't expect any major problems.
Weeeee!
