Ah yeah, at last! basically I moved the color burst offset stuff to the very first scanline which happens to be offscreen. That and instead of doing the switch each frame I did it each field. Seems to be rock solid now. So after all I may have find the way Nintendo did it!

Can't agree more with that. Each time somebody asks me about some parts I always recommend they buy 2 or more of them (and I do just that myself). When you have a bug, it's just easier to swap them and see if you blew up something. This overclocking issue is worth mentioning so I'll add a remark in ...

Clay also experienced some chips that wouldn't work. But the rate was pretty low if I recall.

Hey Clay, could you give this one a try? If others on the forum could try it too and report any issues on their TV that would be great. It may fix the issue for good (fingers crossed).
Note: the analog distortion when mario jump should be resolved too.
