Re: PCB or stripboard layout

Kent, That's great news! I have some other optional features to complete like SD-card and Ethernet interfaces that the PCB should account for. Nevertheless, I will contact you for sure as soon as it's done. Thanks a lot for your interest. The project is really taking shape now! Btw: 5-6$ seems dirt ...

Re: Theory of sound generation

Acedio: I'm not sure I fully understand your question but as mentioned, you must use fixed point arithmetics for this. It's tough to explain without a picture. Lets try with a asm code example: Lets use the use a 8:8 fixed point step (8 bits for the integral part and 8 bit for the fractional part) d...

Re: Official parts list

Yes, you're right. Fortunately, I found 300-8455-ND, which has identical characteristics, but has a cylindrical shape. Thanks for letting me know, I have corrected it in the parts list.

Re: Official parts list

hehe, right on! You need only one, but take my advice and order 2! So many times, when nothing worked, I suspected I blew up the chip. Switched in the replacement...reflash...doh! Nothing again, must be a bug!

Re: PCB or stripboard layout

I don't know for others, but I favor non-SMT to make it as easy as possible to assemble for hobbyist of all levels. In fact, that was one of the goal of the project. That said, nothing prevent us to have two PCB versions...

Re: Theory of sound generation

Theres basically 2 reasons why mixing isn't done on the fly: 1.When rendering a field, all cycles are taken. At the end of each scanline, there's a short period of time where the electron beam returns back to the beginning of the next line, the horizontal blanking. And the problem is there, theres n...

Official parts list

Since a few are asking for where to find the all the parts, here's the complete list. All are DigiKey part numbers and currently in stock (as of July 2009). Quantities are correct but accounts for the minimum you can order. Parts list for the Rev E1 Schematic (For rev F1, get it here ): Uzebox BOM /...

Re: PCB or stripboard layout

Hi Loyd, Unfortunately, there is no PCB right now. However it is for sure in my plan to have one done sometime. As I'm not expert in PCBs, I'm looking for some with expertise to provide advices or, even better, a design. If there's enough demand, perhaps I will have a batch produced. In the meantime...

Re: External Memory

I thinkered with the idea of SD memory for game content, but there's not enough RAM to buffer blocks, so it sounded pretty useless. But to use it to make some sort of 200-in-1 game cartidge, that's genius! Good one Compman. I guess we just need to code some sort of custom boot loader. And the SPI po...

Re: capacitors

Pick values rated for voltage above your own circuit! Since we are talking 5V here, anything between 10V-50V should be fine. But keep in mind the bigger the rating, usually the bigger it is too.
