Re: Uzebox PCBs are in!
A very belated congratulations to you! I've found that designing and building your own PCBs is a lot of fun once you get the hang of it. Between iTead, Seeed, Dorkbot PDX, Batch PCB, and others, hobbyists now have lots of good options for getting a few custom PCBs made for $10 to $40 depending on th...

Re: Selling my custom-built Uzebox hardware
Hehe, awesome! If you're like me, I bet you have a collection of old hardware creations piled into a dusty box somewhere. Except in your case, you needed two pieces of old hardware to both work (the sound card and the pentium mobo). I bet that was fun.

Selling my custom-built Uzebox hardware
I'm selling my custom-built Uzebox system. Sad for me, but good for you if you need hardware! uzebox_front2.jpg This system was previously discussed in the forums in http://uzebox.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=436&p=3524 . It includes an NTSC Uzebox with internal speaker, two controllers, p...

Re: Uzebox inside an FPGA ?
Yeah, so far I've found that the FPGA learning curve is very steep indeed! I've been pretty surprised, because I knew there would be some new skills to learn, but I've found it much more difficult than I expected. I think the "not hobbyist friendly" problem feeds on itself. Because there a...

Re: SD Card, programs and life of the flash
I thought the rated cycles for Flash memory was for the number of writes, not reads. Reads should be free. No?

Re: My home-made Uzebox
Yeah, many of the externally-facing components do not have normal pins on a 0.1" grid suitable for stripboard. Things like the RCA jack for audio, and the S-video connector, have custom footprints meant to match a custom set of holes on a PCB. Even if they did have pins on a 0.1" grid, the...

Re: My home-made Uzebox
Me: Look honey, after 2 years, it finally works, I can display a white box in the middle of the screen! It's all generated by that little guy. Her: blank stare Haha, I can DEFINITELY relate to that! Fortunately my wife tolerates my nerdy hobbies pretty well, even if she doesn't appreciate why I thi...

Re: Fuzebox 2 Speculation
When I measured them a while ago, it didn't look like the gap between the groups of 3 and 4 pins on the SNES connector was an even multiple of the inter-pin spacing. So I'm not sure that would work.

Re: Per-line "frame" buffer
during the output you could output the buffer reeeaaally quickly as you're just reading and outputting and then with the spare cycles start putting together the buffer for the next line. I'm not sure I understood your idea correctly, but I don't think it would work. You need to output pixels at the...
